Famous Hairstyles

Hairstyles throw light on the social condition of the society. Along with time, hairstyles alter. The only common trend is that the hairstyles of the celebrities and popular icons is always regarded as ideal. In the early 1900s, Antoine of Paris parted the hair in the middle and swept them back over the ears. In the 1920s, the Louise Brooke’s bob became well-known. In the 1940s, Rita Hayworth made the side-parted finger waves very popular. The 1950s, the helmet like hairstyle and the pixie cut was prevalent. Big hair and poodle perms were widespread in the 1980s. The 1990s were the era of the Jennifer Aniston hairstyle and the millennium revived Sarah Jessica Parker’s flowing curly style.

The Mullet

This has always been called the “king of hairstyles”. In this, hair is short on the top and long at the back. Usually, rockstars, Italians and South Americans follow this hairstyle. Mike D from the Beastie Boys used the term “mullet” for the first time in the 1980s.

The Afro

This style reached the pinnacle in the 1960s. Some celebrities who used this style are Michael Jackson and John Shaft. In this style, bigger the hair the better are the looks.

The Perm

This style reached its prime in the 1970s. It is popular primarily among females. However, some males also use it. It is a general choice in the Royal family, golf professionals and grannies. It must be noted that the perming process damages the hair.

The Aniston

The hairstyle of Jennifer Aniston enabled ordinary faced girls to look like pretty ones. Aniston created a huge trend amongst women worldwide.

It so happened that Jennifer Aniston played the character of Rachel Green on Friends, which was a wildly popular weekly show. In its second season, Aniston had a sharp new haircut that transformed her to a hairstyle icon. This haircut was named after her character as “The Rachel”. It is bouncy, angled and layered shag. The Los Angeles hairstylist Chris McMillan is the creator of this hairstyle. This hairstyle has been the most popular after “The Farrah” style of the 70s. Farrah Fawcett of Charlie’s Angels had started the “Farrah” style.

The Quiff

The front hair were differently styled than the rest. They were also dyed in a different color than the rest. Although, this style was hugely popular, it is not inherently good.

The Skinhead

Low cost and ease of construction are the prime advantages of this style. In the 1980s, it was seen on soccer grounds and since then was accepted worldwide. Soldiers, Nazis and Liverpudlians are the main adherents of this style.

The Step

The hair is parted at the center and there is a slight undercut. In northern Britain, it is called the “wedge”. In the 1990s, it was the ultimate choice of 11 year olds.

The Mohawk

This style has several variations. The traditional long haired style is obviously the optimum way. It is not suitable to all people.

The Punk Rocker

This style was generally seen in the early 1980s and not much afterwards. It was generally used with a leather jacket and tight jeans.

The Comb-over

This is useful for aging men as it enables to hide the baldness efficiently. Those having this hairstyle carry a comb with them at all times to adjust it whenever required. However, this hairstyle flops due to wind and bending over and exposes the head.

Sarah Jessica Parker Hairstyles

Parker popularized twelve types of hairstyles. The first had gorgeous natural curls. The second had long and bohemian style with thick and naturally wavy hair. The third was a mid-length hairstyle with a flattering shape around the face and emphasis on natural curls. The fourth showed her natural curly locks. The fifth allowed for enough length in the cut to allow them to fall naturally. The sixth was a gorgeous chin length bob. The seventh had a sleek and straight look with little or no layering. The eighth had been cut with a lot of plenty short jagged layers through the top to create volume. The ninth was a shoulder length bob and a small amount of layers cut into the ends. The tenth had been pinned up high and swept to large shaped barrel curls. The eleventh was cut below shoulder level and the top as well as sides had been angle layered. The twelfth had smooth long hair along with slight layers at the very ends for some amount of movement.
